The Artificiate Race

Artificiates are androids that have broken through the limiters of their artificial intelligence through unknown circumstances to gain sentience. Formerly used to perform a variety of tasks, some artificiates harbour resentment for their previous robotic usage, while others approach their new lease of life with curiosity and excitement.

The proliferation of robotic helpers throughout the megacities make Artificiates little more than a curiosity, allowing them to blend in with the crowd quite easily.

Roleplaying an Artificiate:

Consider how long it's been since you achieved awareness. Have you been living among the organics for decades, or have you just snapped out of your robotic trance? How did your former users treat you? Were you one of the family or the equivalent of a toaster?

New Artificiates tend to have only a loose control over their newfound emotions. Everything funny is hilarious, everything sad is tragic. Depending on how old your Artificiate is, consider how they'd react to the twists and turns of life as an adventurer.

Artificiate Naming Conventions:

• After their awakening, Artificiates name themselves singular human name or a word that holds meaning to them. Many Artificiates use their name to allude to their previous work as a machine, while others renounce their former functions entirely.
• For example: Penny, Bruce, Dave, Flower, Savage, Burger, Array, Steve, Server, Johnny, Maid, Alice, Emma, Assassin, Sewage, Darner, Bot, etc.

Artificiate Features:

• Ability Score Increase: Your Constitution Score increases by 1
• Age: Artificiates are built in the form of a mature human and don't age.
• Size: Your size is Medium. Artificiates are between 5 and 7 feet tall.
• Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
• Modular: During a short rest, you can swap out your modular chassis for other parts, allowing you to change your appearance, gain a special ability, or equip a set of natural robotic weapons.
• Appearance: Change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length and sex. You can also adjust your height and weight, but not so much that your size changes. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your statistics change. You can't duplicate the appearance of a creature you've never seen, and you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have. You maintain your changed appearance when using other Modular abilities.
• Aquatic: You adapt your body to an underwater environment, swapping your feet out for flippers. You gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
• Natural Weapons: you attach small knives, hammers, nails or a simple robotic weapon of your choice to yourself. Your unarmed strikes deal 1d6 bludgeoning, piercing or slashing damage, as appropriate to the robotic weapon you chose. Finally, you have a +1 bonus to the attack and damage rolls you make using your robotic weapon.

Model Types:

STACKERBOT:

• Ability Score Increase: Your Strength score increases by 2.
• Power Lift: You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, pull or lift.

RESEARCHBOT:

• Ability Score Increase: Your Intelligence Score increases by 2.
• Learned: You gain two extra Skill Proficiencies of your choice

SEXBOT:

• Ability Score Increase: Your Charisma Score increases by 2.
• Beautiful: You gain advantage on Performance and Persuasion skill checks.

FIGHTBOT

• Ability Score Increase: Your Dexterity Score increases by 2
  
• Relentless Endurance: When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
• Savage Attacks: When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, you can roll one of the weapon's damage dice one additional time and add it to the extra damage of the critical hit.
